Egg Timer – Runny, Jammy & Hard-Boiled Presets
Ready
Your screen may turn off — keep it awake.
Keys: Space start/pause, R reset, + / − one minute, F focus. Shortcuts work when the timer is focused.
Lower your eggs into gently boiling water, tap the preset for how you like them and press Start. The ring drains as they cook, and a bell rings when it's time to lift them out. Six minutes, a jammy egg, is the default. The times are for large eggs straight from the fridge, so take a minute off for small or room-temperature eggs. Keep the page open on your phone or laptop beside the stove.
Egg times
- Runny, dippy eggs: 4 minutes for a set white and a liquid yolk.
- Jammy eggs for ramen or salads: 6 minutes, then straight into cold water.
- Medium eggs with a just-set yolk: 8 minutes.
- Hard-boiled eggs for egg salad or lunch boxes: 11 minutes.
Questions
How long do you boil an egg?
For a large egg straight from the fridge, lowered into gently boiling water: about 4 minutes for runny, 6 for jammy, 8 for medium and 11 for hard-boiled. Smaller or room-temperature eggs cook a little faster.
Do I start the timer when the water boils?
Yes. Bring the water to a gentle boil first, lower the eggs in with a spoon, then press Start. Move them into cold water when the alarm sounds so they stop cooking.
Can I set a different time?
Yes. Tap one of the presets, or press +1 min and −1 min to adjust before or during the countdown.
